After School Badminton Club

An after school badminton club for P4 to P7 pupils has proved to be quite a success. The club is sponsored by the Community Council and run jointly with the Leisure and Sports Department in Partnership with Active Schools.

It meets in the Village Hall between 3:00pm and 4:30pm on Monday afternoons. On average 10 pupils attend and their enthusiasm and commitment is a pleasure to see.

The young peoples' improving badminton skills are apparent to all and auger well for the future of the game in the village. The club will continue to meet every Monday afternoon until 31st May. It is hoped that the club will continue after the Summer holiday in the newly refurbished school building.

Kirkcolm Walking Group

Tonight saw the participation of the first Kirkcolm walking group.  4 adults and 3 dogs participated in a walk around the "Mossie" then round Kirkcolm Bowling Club, Corsewall woods and down towards the Fishers Lane and back into the village.

Hopefully more people will participate next week 26/04/10 on a circular walk around the Wig.  Meeting at the village hall at 7.00pm  A walk around the Clachan Heughs is to be arranged in the very near future.

Community Benefit from Windfarms - North Rhins Windfarm

A meeting was held with Solway heritage on 9th February regarding funding from North Rhins Windfarm.

Kirkcolm Community is in line for a windfall payment annually for the next twenty three and a half years, to be spent on community projects.

One of the first projects discussed was the possible formation of a film club within the Village Hall. This would be open to all and it is hoped that if the plan is approved, films would be shown on a monthly basis.

Ros Surtees Alisa Craig Swim Challenge

roz_welcome_small On September 12th Ros Surtees completed the mammoth task of swimming from Ailsa Craig to Girvan, a distance of about 10 miles but much longer with the effect of tides.

Ros undertook this amazing challenge to support the work of Alzheimer Scotland who work to support both those suffering from this disease and their carers. To read more about this worthy organisation please go to the Alzheimer Scotland Website.

Ros swum for over 8 hours to complete her challenge and trained for over a year beforehand in order to achieve the level of skill and fitness required to complete such a grueling task. More information on Ros's Alisa Craig Swim Challenge is available on her blog here. Ros - we're all very proud of you!
